Our Squirt (10 U) Jr Fireantz Team had a blast this past weekend and walked away with another successful weekend of hockey in Chesapeake, VA.  They walked away with a runner up, second place finish at the Annual St Pats Hockey Tournament at Chilled Ponds in Chesapeake.  The Squirt Jr Fireantz team wrapped up their season with superb teamwork and fine sportsmanship, once again doing their part in making strong showings from our Cape Fear Youth Hockey Teams!  Look out youth hockey.....Fayetteville is coming for ya!

GO FAYETTEVILLE!!!

Building a Stone Wall in Delaware

The Cape Fear Jr. FireAntz Bantams traveled to Delaware this last weekend to compete in the Flight on Ice Tournament.  The team went up to compete against some of the best teams in the Northeast, including an Individual Skills competition.

In the Skills competition, each team member participated in one of the 5 events.  The FireAntz Bantams took Second in Timed Stick Handling, and Speed shooting events.  They also went to a tie-breaker in the Shootout competition, and took second there as well.

The highlight of the weekend was Melanie Thomas.  Our Goalie took top position in the goalie events against 16 other goalies, and shooters from 8 teams.  Mel stopped 11 out of 12 continuous breakaway shots in the speed shot competition (a timed event), and 7 of 10 Penalty shots… all from some of the best shooters in the Northeast!  She left 15 other goalies wishing they could play like a girl.  She also attracted the attention of some folks with the University of Delaware Women’s team.

Congratulations Melanie on Winning the Goalie Competition!

16U Win Bowie 2008 President's Day Tournament

The Jr FireAntz 16U spent the weekend at the Bowie Maryland 2008 President Day's Tournament.  The team rolled to a 3-1 record bringing home the championship banner.  The team beat Bowie, Delco, - lost to Chesapeake in the round robin but came back to beat them in the final.  The championship game ended in a 1-1 tie and the Jr. FireAntz won the tourney in a good old fashioned shootout.  Chris Arnold and Hayden Lopez scored shootout goals to bring home the banner.  Great job 16U!!!

Peewees Commitment to Local Charity

This year the Peewees are doing their part again to keep the tradition of giving back to the community.  Last year they supported the Special Olympics with a season long campaign.  The Peewee team is having a bake sale at the South Post Commissary on Saturday 3 Nov from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The money raised will be going to a local charity. If you have the time, stop by and show your support any way you can.  The Cape Fear Board wants to thank the Peewees for their generosity and continued support to giving back to the community.
